Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai 20th May 2024 Written Update: In today’s episode, Abhira brings her bags downstairs. Armaan says he has made a decision. He sees Abhira and says he is ready to marry Ruhi. Everyone smiles. Abhira stumbles, and Armaan steps forward worriedly. Ruhi stops him and asks what happened. Abhira leaves. Vidya says she wants the marriage to happen soon and will start preparing for it.
Manish comes in and says this engagement can’t happen because he doesn’t want the same thing to happen to Ruhi. Dadi says Ruhi is her daughter-in-law, but Abhira is not. Manish says no, she is nobody to you. Dadi says Ruhi stays here by choice and is ready for this marriage. She asks Ruhi to tell Manish.
Manish says he won’t listen to Ruhi and asks Armaan to consider his actions. He says their relationship is over, and marrying won’t change that. Dadi tells him not to say that and guarantees Ruhi won’t misbehave like Abhira. She says selfish and misbehaving people have no place in their house. Manish asks why Sanjay is living there then.
Sanjay gets angry and grabs Manish’s collar. Everyone tries to stop him, but Sanjay pushes them away, causing Ruhi to fall. Manish asks if Ruhi is okay. Dadi says Ruhi was happy before Manish came. Manish asks who made Kajal cry. Manish and Dadi argue. Manish says Dadi doesn’t let her daughters-in-law speak and treats them like puppets. Dadi taunts him, saying he kicked his daughter out of the house. Manish remembers Akshu and cries. He says Dadi doesn’t know why she left, but he chose Ruhi over his daughter.
Dadi asks if such things haven’t happened in Manish’s family. He says Dadi’s daughters-in-law don’t know how to think for themselves. Dadi says only her rules matter in her house, and she insists on Armaan and Ruhi’s marriage. Manish says he didn’t raise his daughter to live like a puppet and won’t let her marry Armaan because she won’t be happy.
Dadi says she will ensure Ruhi and Armaan get married, and no one can stop her. She swears on Rohit and promises to give Ruhi happiness. Manish says he can bow down to love but not to pride. Dadi insists Ruhi and Armaan are right for each other, but Manish disagrees.
Vidya mentions Abhira and Armaan, and Manish says Vidya has mistakenly spoken the truth. Ruhi says she wants to marry Armaan. Manish warns her that she might regret it later. Armaan says he is doing it for Ruhi’s sake. Manish tells Ruhi to think if Armaan is agreeing out of some helplessness and leaves.
The broker shows Abhira a room. She checks it and negotiates the rent. The man tells her to go to a hostel if it’s better. Abhira thinks she doesn’t want to see Armaan’s face. The man tells her to block the door with her bag as they need money and won’t come in. He stares at her and leaves. She hears Armaan’s name.
Manish comes home and argues with Swarna. He says Armaan has hurt both Ruhi and Abhira. Swarna says Armaan is a responsible guy and asks Manish to consider Ruhi’s happiness with Armaan. Manish says Ruhi will be alone and sad if she marries Armaan, and he won’t let it happen. Abhira sees a chequebook, cries, and tries to tear it but falls, shattered.
